Here at Gastrognome we offer a range of children’s services from food allergy training to baby led weaning, and a few things in between.

The babies and toddler section of Gastrognome provide services to help with Complementary Feeding and Reducing the Risk of Food Allergies in Early Life.

Food allergies to new parents, or carers of newly diagnosed allergies can feel a bit overwhelming, we are here to help.

At Gastrognome we offer REHIS Accredited training for food allergies in children and young people.

Baby- led weaning

Baby-led weaning can contribute towards avoiding obesity as the children control their own levels of food intake and stop eating when they have had enough. Baby-led weaning is offering a baby of 6 months or older a variety of foods cut up into small pieces, chopped or roughly mashed and allowing them to explore the foods and eat with their fingers.  First foods would include fruit, vegetables, protein, starch, and dairy. There is no need to puree foods or blend them to a smooth paste. Foods can be raw if soft enough or cooked. If weaning is left until 6 months, children are more able to move food around in their mouths, chew, and swallow food. Constant supervision is necessary and a sense of humour with regards to mess would also be useful!
